Wooden Doors Workshop Project

The Wooden Doors Workshop Project marks the inaugural programme of the Qatar Museums Heritage Clinic, opening in a former 1959–60 health clinic in Sharq to train future conservators, architects and heritage custodians.

The National Museum of Qatar’s collection of historic doors brings together 158 doors, frames and windows spanning over a century, saved from re-developing neighbourhoods and private collections and inherited by the museum, where they stayed in storage until 2024.

With the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, conservators, carpenters and architects spent months documenting, cleaning and repairing each piece, turning a store of objects into a collection.

An exhibition shows the progress of the first phase of the project, tracing timber and styles, and inscriptions to their regional origins and previous craftspeople, families and neighbourhoods.
