The theme of this competition – ‘Qatar’s Treasures of the Sea: Then and Now’ – highlights the vital role the sea has played in the nation’s history, and its ongoing importance today. Students are encouraged to reflect on how the sea once provided essential resources such as food, trade routes and pearls, while also exploring its modern benefits, including recreation, environmental sustainability and marine life preservation. Participants are invited to creatively represent both the historical and contemporary significance of the sea through their artwork.
Eligibility
- Open to students in Grades 3 to 6
- Independent and private schools are welcome
Submission Limit
- Each school may submit a maximum of 5 student artworks
Canvas Size & Medium
- Minimum size: 25x35 cm
- Maximum size: 40x30 cm
- Medium: Only acrylic and oil paints are allowed
Submission Deadline
- Submissions will be accepted from 1 October until1 December 2024.
Identification and Description
- Each canvas should have a paper attached to the back stating:
- Student's name
- School
- Teacher’s name
- Teacher’s email
- Teacher’s phone number
- A short description of the artwork

Evaluation Criteria
The following criteria will be used to evaluate the submitted artworks:
- Creativity and Originality: How creatively the student has interpreted the theme ’Qatar’s Treasures of the Sea: Then and Now’
- Artistic Skill and Technique: The technical ability to use acrylic or oil paints
- Theme Representation: How well the artwork represents the theme, capturing both the past and present significance of the sea
- Visual Impact: The overall visual appeal and emotional impact of the artwork
- Detail: Attention to detail
Conditions
- The National Museum of Qatar reserves the right to display, reproduce or use the submitted artworks in museum publications and promotions.
- By participating, teachers and students agree to these rules and consent to the museum’s use of their artwork.
